'Mudra'
is a sanskrit term for certain hand positions used during meditation.
This drawing also incorporates the concept of Kundalini, symbolized
by the intertwining serpents rising along the spinal column around
the energy centers of the chakras.
The
multiple arms not only allowed the drawing to echo Hindu and Buddhist
art, but also served as a skeleton for the incorporation of additional
eyes and mouths inserted into the illustration.
This
piece is not as successful as the original Mudra sketch, as it
becomes too abstract and the eyes and mouth seem to be more a
part of a collage than of some sort of emergence from the figure.
The piece was included for comparison.
