The
'Pencil Heads' drawing series started as a vehicle for me to get
back into traditional pencil/graphite and paper artwork, as I
had been doing so much work on the computer (and still do), but
wanted to flex my creative skills and get my hands and mind working
together again the 'old' way.
These
drawings were done primarily for fun, and something that would
sell easily. I have always enjoyed cartooning and caricature,
and love the effect of exaggerated and distorted human facial
features. The title of each drawing comes from a random list I
keep of made-up words and word combinations, puns, etc. that spring
to mind or come up in conversations.
The
title 'Meanderthal' is a fun word which also became semi-prescient
recently with discoveries that could mean that the Neanderthals
were not ancestors of the human race, but rather coexisted with
them, thus 'meandering' from the 'family tree' held to dearly
by the scientists who subscribe to the theory of evolution. OK,
I admit it's a bit of a stretch.
Remember
kids, the 'theory of evoltuion' has the word 'theory' in it for
a reason. And no, this doesn't mean I am promoting Creationism.
There are plenty of respected, non-religious scientists who do
not subscribe to the theory of evolution (and many who do). Did
you know that ALL of the remains on which the theory of evolution
are based can be fit into ONE coffin? The older I get, the more
I think the answer lies either completely outside the dualistic
argument of 'either Creationism or Evolution', or perhaps is a
blend of the two. I hold my tongue until either side can provide
enough reasonable proof either way.
